ANANTRAJ GROUP SAVES 60% ON CABLING COSTS WITH OUR DESIGN

Anant Raj Group is one of the leading Construction and Infrastructure Developers in North India. They have developed a large SEZ in Sector 8 Manesar. They were very unhappy with their existing CCTV Vendor as he was unable to complete the first phase of the project. The vendor had used expensive RG11 cable & power cable to wire cameras from all parts of the building to the Control Room in the basement.

The architecture used by the vendor had much more cables than necessary. Due to the large number of cables it was proving difficult for the existing vendor to trace & rectify faults. TNS redesigned the architecture for the next phase and used only 19000 meters of CAT 6 cable against the existing vendors proposing 50000 meters of cable.

The solution offered by TNS has following advantages:

  • Intelligent IP distributed cabling system we have reduced cabling requirements to 1/3rd of traditional proposals.

  • Cat 6 cabling proposed by us provides superior image quality, redundancy & power transmission over the same cable.

  • Also simplified identification & reduced maintenance. Only 8 to 10 cables terminated on BMS room vs more than 254 for traditional solution.

  • Most transmission is IP with superior quality vs Analog for traditional solution.

  • Superior quality/reliability of Capture Cameras as the brand is owned & marketed by Honeywell in India.

  • Reduced number of cameras from over 300 to 240 using intelligent placement based upon assets & chokepoints.

  • It is possible to view multiple DVR’s & cameras on a single LCD screen in numerous combinations vs. only 16 cameras per screen for traditional solution. Reduced Requirement of LCD’s from 26 to 9 as per our design.

  • Distributed architecture ensures easy location & serviceability of faults.

  • Manpower requirements for monitoring reduced.

  • BMS room location can be shifted at any time.

L&T REDUCES LABOUR COSTS USING IRIS RECOGNITION FROM TNS

L&T is one of India's largest construction contractors. With projects sites running into several hundreds and workers in several thousands it is a challenging task to know exactly how many labours are working at a site. With its existing biometric fingerprint system, L&T was facing major problems:

  • Fingerprint biometric does not work if the fingers are work out which is usually the case for construction labours

  • Unscrupulous contractors try to manipulate the attendance of workers by enrolling same worker at multiple sites or different fingers of same worker.

  • It is impossible to keep criminal elements out. Troublemakers thrown out from one site easily join another site.

TNS designed a radically new system for L&T based on Iris technology. Firstly all sites in the cluster were connected to a central server by setting up a VPN. A central server was deployed at central location using VMware as virtualisation platform to provide redundancy. Iris machines were deployed at each site and housed in specialized enclosures.

The workers are now enrolled at each site using the same. Worker once enrolled at one site cannot be re-enrolled or marked present at another site. Effectively worker duplicity has been eliminated saving huge amount in costs. Also by keeping troublemakers out there has been no major incidents at sites where the system has been deployed.

HOW SOMA WAREHOUSING PRESERVES FOOD GRAINS

Soma warehousing has built over 11 warehousing all across Punjab for Food Corporation of India. It was facing a problem of loss of food grains due to theft, fraud, employees not following the food preservation procedures. This was causing a massive revenue loss and also causing sleepless nights for the management.

TNS proposed & successfully implemented the concept of Central Monitoring System for Soma New Towns which allows them to remotely view & record over 500 cameras installed in their warehouses spread across Punjab from their head office in New Delhi. The special feature is that all 500 cameras were brought to the Soma HO over just 16mbps bandwidth from over 11 remote locations using a specialized server to compress bandwidth.

The CMS allows Soma to monitor its Food Grains warehousing operations that it is running for FCI strictly. Special cameras installed at weighbridges prevent any tampering/fraud with weight that is a very common practice for such operations by truck drivers.

Using the remote monitoring facility Soma has been able to control storage losses from its warehousing operations.

The CMS feature e-maps of all warehouse locations, any movement is automatically shown on the E-map as a blinking red dot. Cameras can be easily viewed by clicking on the selected dot. The CMS also provides secondary recording facility so that the video archive is available even if anyone destroys the recording equipment installed onsite. Using the above solution the Soma warehousing has been able to effectively control all food grain losses.

WAVECITY - MONITORING LARGE PROJECTS USING SOLAR ENERGY

Wave City is one of India's largest Smart Cities, which is spread across an impressive 4500 acres. It is built on the Smart City concept by IBM. World renowned AECOM is its Town planner & Landscape designer. Wave City is constructed keeping in mind contemporary design and new–age architecture. The wave management wanted to monitor the huge project in order to keep track of the ongoing construction and also to monitor law & order problems created by certain criminal elements in the area.

However, there were two important issues - No Connectivity & No Power at all 8 locations!

TNS designed & implemented a Central Monitoring System for Wave enabling them to monitor their construction and project operations. TNS created a wireless mesh network in these 8 locations using 8 high masts.

Special cameras installed were installed on 25 meter high masts. Cameras were powered by solar panels that were sufficient to run the cameras during the day as well as charge the inbuilt batteries for the night.

The CMS has enabled Wave to monitor several incidents of theft & vandalism. The remote monitoring facility has allowed the project managers to monitor projects from anywhere and help save travel time and improve their productivity.

SOMA-MONITORING PROJECTS AND ENERGY COSTS REMOTELY

Soma the Hyderabad based building giant has initiated a project to build 1 cr square feet of warehousing space for FCI at over 15 sites all over Punjab under the able guidance of its dynamic Managing Director, Mr. Prakash Tanwar. Work was started on war footing at all the warehouses simultaneously at distant locations like Abhor, Malaut, Muktsar etc. TNS was roped in to provide a state of the art Web Integrated Project Monitoring system using Axis IP Cameras. High Definition moving fixed cameras have been installed at all project sites.

A specialized web app has been developed by TNS that can be used to view manage all cameras from any web browser like IE/Chrome/Firefox/Safari without any software or configuration on any device including PC, iPods, iPhone, Android etc. Furthermore, the web app stores hourly snapshots of all sites to review progress of the sites.

MD iPad & those of senior managers have been configured to view control all cameras from anywhere at any time. This has reduced travelling requirements & travel costs by less that half. As per feedback received from Mr. Tanwar, the entire set-up has helped him increase the speed of work on all sites tremendously Furthermore, taking into account the time of top management saved I feel that the investment should pay for itself within the first year itself.

TNS has now implemented a Energy Control system, using the IP Cameras installed on sites, power to lights & other devices can be controlled remotely or automatically. Our target will be to reduce energy costs significantly at all their installations.

JAKSON POWER MOVES TO OPEN SOURCE

Jakson Power Solutions is a fast growing company adding 20-25 users every month to its various divisions. For this they needed to add costly infrastructure for each employee. The existing infrastructure that was based on proprietary software had several issues:

  • Cost :This was a major challenge as the cost of hardware & software licenses for each user was a sizeable amount while the organization realized that the average user was able to use only a fraction of the capabilities of the current system.

  • Obsolescence: Since the newer proprietory programs required greater computing power they wouldn’t run on most of the older hardware requiring the organization to make investment in new hardware or upgrading the old one.

TNS designed & implemented an open source solution for their computing needs. The solution incorporates the following components:

  1. Desktop OS: For desktop OS, we selected UBUNTU 12.04 as it is one of the most stable & frequently updated linux distro and supports a wide variety of hardware.

  2. Office Applications: Libre Office was selected. It as an offshoot of Openoffice and has more features than Open Office. It has most of the common Office applications like Word,Spreadsheet,Presentations,Draw etc. It can also import most of the common formats such as MS Office and has the ability to save documents as PDF inbuilt into it.

  3. Other Applications: Some of the other applications that were used included Adobe Acrobat Reader, OpenProjects which served as a replacement for MS Projects, Draftsight which was an excellent replacement for Autocad and could easily read existing DWG files, thunderbird email program was used to replace MS Outlook.

  4. Email Server:For email server we implemented Zimbra email server which is a product from Vmware. Zimbra is a fully featured collaboration suite and offers a feature set on par with the best messaging & collaboration applications.

Initially the Open Source was implemented for approx 25 users for Beta testing to identify & troubleshoot various issues that were faced by users. Several issues were generated and resolved. A special website was developed to assist users familiarize themselves with the new setup. Also training was provided to users to help overcome the common issues faced by them. After this exercise the management conducted a review and finally decided to implement the Open Source solution for larger number of users.

Businesses even governmental institutions are moving towards open source to cut rising costs and increase flexibility. Moving to open source environment has plenty of advantages other than cost efficiency. The benefits start from stable and scalable software without much errors or defects, since the source code is made available to developers.

However, the major advantage of open source lies in its security features, and unlike commercial software, the fixes for loopholes are much faster.

AMU MOVES TO VIRTUAL EMAIL

TNS has won the order for Aligarh Muslim University for i implementation of email and web port for more than 20000 students and 2000 faculty members on the Vmware platform.

AMU was earlier using postfix for its email server which was an old platform And did not have the sufficient feature & capability to handle the load of the huge number of users. The zimbra collaboration Suite from VMware was chosen as the new email platform as it has several advantage:

1-Zimbra provides Personal Clouds with a smarter mailbox that Integrates email, voice, tracks, address book, calendar, files and enterprise Applications.

2-Built in Smartphone connectivity with automatic sync

3-Rich browser-based email client application with feature such as drag And drop, shared tagging, social conversation etc. Works online or offline With full features free email client Zimbra Desktop that can easily replace Microsoft Outlook.

The mail server was configured on Virtual server for high Availability & fault tolerance. Virtual environment was created using two IBM rack servers along with Vmware VCenter and Vsphere.

This type deployment has multiple advantages.

High-availability & fault tolerance- Even If any physical server Is down then virtual server are automatically shifted to other Hosts without requiring any user intervention.

ENHANCING SECURITY AT DELHI UNIVERSITY

The Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) is a Government of India funded institute established under the aegis of the University of Delhi. It was founded in 2011 and introduced Innovation as a credit based course for the first time in India. CIC wanted to enhance the security of its campus and hence invited proposals from many vendors. The objective was to provide maximum security using minimum number of cameras, also the solution should be tamperproof and highly resilient and maintainence free.

TNS designed the solution and proposed to cover the campus using approx 40 cameras only while other vendors proposed over 100 cameras. The cameras chosen were Mobotix 360 Degree panoramic cameras. The solutions offered following advantages :

  • Each camera cover 360 Degree.

  • No moving parts unlike PTZ cameras which are prone to failure makes the solution sturdy.

  • Each camera has a staggering resolution of 5 megapixel.

  • Cameras have no blind spot and cannot be tampered with.

  • Less number of cameras means less switching & cabling to reduce cost. Less bandwidth & power consumption.
